Hosting questions, plainly answered.

A working reference of the questions clients most often ask about hosting: what managed hosting actually covers, backups and security, moving from another host, leaving, domains, and what it costs. Grouped by topic so you can skim to the part that matters. If something isn't covered here, just ask.

The questions

Things people ask, answered honestly.

Backups, security, and uptime

Do you back up my site?

Yes. Managed WordPress hosting includes automatic daily backups with 30 days of restore points, so if something goes wrong, the site can be rolled back to a recent known-good version. Modern static sites are version-controlled in full, so the site can be rebuilt and redeployed from source at any time. Either way, a bad day is recoverable.

How secure is your hosting?

Both hosting types are built for security. WordPress hosting includes multiple firewalls, malware detection, application security patching, full account isolation, and active monitoring. Modern static hosting has a naturally small attack surface, with no live database or PHP runtime to attack. No hosting is a magic shield, but well-built sites on properly managed hosting are genuinely safe, and we keep watching rather than assuming.

What happens if my site goes down?

We monitor sites so we usually know about a problem before you do. If something goes wrong, sorting it out is what your hosting plan is for. If it's something at our end or the platform's, it's our problem to solve, not yours. You ring us, or we're already on it.

My site has been hacked. Can you help, even though you don't host it?

Yes. Cleaning and securing a compromised site is a specific service, Website Security Rescue, and we take it on whether or not the site is one we built or host. If you're dealing with this right now, the Website Security Rescue page explains what's involved, or just get in touch and we'll tell you where you stand quickly.

Domains, email, and pricing

Can you handle my domain as well?

Yes. We can register a new domain, take over managing one you already have, handle the DNS, and keep renewals under control so a domain never lapses by accident. The Domain Registration & Management page covers this in full.

Can you sort out my business email?

Yes. We set up business email on your own domain through Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and configure the deliverability records so messages actually land. The Email Hosting page covers this in full.

How much does hosting cost?

Managed WordPress hosting starts at £8/month (£80/year) for the Standard plan, with Performance at £20/month and three further boosts above that for busier sites. App and static hosting starts at £10/month, with the final figure depending on traffic and any serverless usage. The first year is included with every new build. Full detail is on the Managed WordPress Hosting and App & Static Hosting pages.

Why is your hosting more than the cheap deals I've seen?

Because it's a different thing. A bargain-basement hosting deal is usually unmanaged server space: no maintenance, no monitoring, no one watching, and no one to call. BrainWeb hosting includes the updates, security, backups, and direct support that keep a site genuinely healthy. It's priced fairly for what it is, and for most businesses the time and risk it removes is worth far more than the difference.

What's the privacy-first analytics that comes with my hosting?

Every BrainWeb hosting plan includes Umami, a privacy-first analytics platform we host on our own infrastructure. It tells you what your visitors are doing on your site, without using cookies, without collecting personal data, and without needing a cookie banner. It's a meaningful piece of the hosting offer, not an upsell.

What's included is the platform running for your site. The full Analytics & Reporting service, which adds proper configuration, conversion tracking, custom dashboards, and optional monthly reports, sits on top of this and is priced separately. Plenty of clients are perfectly served by what's included.

Leaving, ownership, and contracts

Am I locked into a contract?

No. Hosting runs on a monthly or annual plan, and there's no long tie-in. The aim is to keep your hosting because it's genuinely good, not because leaving is made difficult.

What if I want to leave?

Your website is yours, and so is your domain. If you ever want to move on, we hand over the files, the database, and whatever else is needed, and we'll help with the move to another host. No hostage-taking, no awkwardness.

Do I own my domain, or do you?

You do, always. When we register or manage a domain on your behalf, it's registered in your ownership, not ours. If you ever want to take direct control of it or move it elsewhere, we'll help you do that. A domain held hostage is an old industry trick, and not one we play.

Managed hosting basics

What does "managed" hosting actually mean?

It means the ongoing work of keeping a site healthy is handled for you, not just the server space. With BrainWeb, managed hosting covers WordPress core and plugin updates, security monitoring, daily backups, performance and caching, and a real person to call when something needs doing. Unmanaged hosting gives you server space and leaves the rest to you. The managed part is the part that actually saves you time and trouble.

Do I need hosting from you, or can I host my site anywhere?

Your site is yours, and technically it can be hosted anywhere that supports it. But a site is only as good as the hosting under it, and a WordPress site in particular needs proper maintenance to stay fast and safe. BrainWeb hosting exists so the site we built for you stays well looked after by the people who built it. It's a recommendation, not a requirement.

Is hosting included when you build my site?

Yes. Every new build includes the first year of managed hosting as part of the project, matched to the right setup for the site (Managed WordPress Hosting for WordPress, App & Static Hosting for modern JS sites). After the first year, hosting continues on a monthly or annual plan. It's genuinely included, not a trial rate that jumps later.

What's the difference between WordPress hosting and the App & Static hosting?

They suit two different kinds of site. Managed WordPress Hosting is for WordPress sites, which need a database and a PHP runtime, so the hosting includes the updates and maintenance that keeps all that healthy. App & Static Website Hosting is for modern JS framework sites (Astro, Next.js), which are served as static files from a global network and need very little maintenance. The build determines which one your site needs, and we'll have told you well before this is a question.

Moving to BrainWeb

Can you move my existing site to your hosting?

Yes. We handle the whole migration: a full backup of your existing site, setting it up and testing it on our infrastructure, then switching it over with as little disruption as possible. We can cancel your old hosting afterwards too, if you'd like.

Will my site go down while it's being moved?

We work to avoid any visible downtime, and usually achieve it. The site is fully set up and tested on our side before anything switches, and the changeover itself is timed carefully. In practice, visitors shouldn't notice the move happened.

How much does migration cost?

Migration is included free with a new annual hosting contract. If you'd rather take hosting monthly, migration is quoted as a one-off, typically £50 to £150 depending on the size and complexity of the site. Either way, you'll have a clear figure before anything begins.
