Norwich is the hardest place in Norfolk to stand out online, and that is down to the character of the city rather than its size. It is a genuinely independent trading city: the Lanes, one of the oldest and largest open-air markets in the country, Magdalen Street, the Golden Triangle. Alongside those independents sit Aviva, two universities, the research park, and a professional services sector competing for clients well beyond East Anglia. A Norwich business is rarely the only option in its category, so the website has to work harder than it would in a market town.
What a Norwich site is actually competing against
Usually not the other Norwich businesses. It is competing against somebody with three tabs open and very little patience. In a market this dense people shortlist quickly and on thin evidence: whether the page loads, whether it says plainly what you do, and whether you look like the sort of firm that returns calls. Most of the sites we are asked to look at here are not badly designed. They are slow, vague about the offer, or sitting on a platform that quietly stopped being maintained.
So the work tends to start with structure rather than styling. What the pages are, what each one is for, which searches they should answer, and what you want the reader to do next. The design comes after that, built from scratch rather than dropped into a theme.
Beyond the brochure site
Norwich is where most of our app and integration work happens, simply because there are more businesses here at the scale where a website stops being a brochure. Booking that talks to the diary, quoting tools, client portals, an assistant that answers the twenty questions your inbox gets every week. Modern tools, sensibly used. We build the ones that save you real time and leave the rest alone.
Half an hour from the studio
Our studio is in Smallburgh in north Norfolk, about half an hour from the city. Most Norwich projects start with one meeting in person, which is usually enough to understand a business properly, and carry on by email and video after that. We are close enough to come back when it matters.
If you are a Norwich business planning a new site, or wondering why the current one is not producing enquiries, get in touch and we will give you an honest read on it.
