Wroxham is the capital of the Broads, and the first thing worth saying is that most of it is actually Hoveton. The shops, the station, and Roys, which has used the title world's largest village store since the 1930s, all sit on the north side of Wroxham Bridge, in a different parish. If your business is in Hoveton and your customers call it Wroxham, your website has to answer to both names. That is a real search problem rather than a pedantic one.
The Wroxham and Hoveton problem, in one paragraph
People search for the name they know. Somebody looking for a boatyard, a cafe, or a plumber near the bridge will type Wroxham, whichever parish you pay rates in. The fix is not stuffing both names into every page. It is being accurate about your address and consistent about your service area across the site, the Google listing, and the directories, so search engines can connect the place people mean with the business you run. Get that wrong and you quietly disappear from a search that should be yours.
Almost everything here sells a date
Boat hire, holiday lets, moorings, the railway, the attractions: the product is a slot in a calendar. That makes availability the most important thing on the site, and usually the most broken. Getting the booking system talking properly to the office diary is worth more than another round of design revisions, and it is where we would push the budget.
The season shapes the rest of it. Traffic is concentrated into a handful of months, decided by rankings and reviews set well before that, and arriving mostly on phones held by people who are already parked. A slow site costs real money in that situation, which is why we build these on a stack that stays fast under load rather than one that needs nursing through August.
Fifteen minutes up the road
Our studio is in Smallburgh, about fifteen minutes from the bridge. Close enough for a proper first meeting and an in-person handover, and close enough to be useful when something needs looking at in a hurry in the middle of the season.
If you run a business in Wroxham or Hoveton, get in touch and we will give you an honest view of what the site should be doing before the next season starts.
